AGE GROUPINGS
The Los Alamitos Aquatics Foundation is typically divided into eight age/gender groupings. Each program builds on top of the previous age group from both a development and competitive perspective. By end of U14 age group, players should be exposed to the tools necessary to compete for a spot on their high school team.
- U10 Boys/U10 Girls: This is our youngest team, for those who will be 10 years old or younger on August 1 of the next Junior Olympics (held in July). Our 10 and under group is expected to be able to swim proficiently (i.e., swim freestyle) for practice and be sufficiently emotionally/cognitively developed to pay attention and follow instructions. The club fields a U10 Boys team as well as a U10 Girls team. Both programs practice 3 times a week. Two of the practices involve common training with each other and single team practice.
- U12 Boys Group; Practices approximately practice 3 times a week with an emphasis on water polo development. At the U12 level players are introduced to the concept of competing for a roster spots, skill evaluation, and test sets.
- U14 Boys Group: The U14 boys group practices 3 times a week with an emphasis on prepping for high school water polo.
- U12 Girls Group: Practices approximately practice 3 times a week with an emphasis on water polo development. At the U12 level players are introduced to the concept of competing for a roster spots, skill evaluation, and test sets.
- U14 Girls Group: The U14 girls program practices 3 times a week with an emphasis on prepping for high school water polo.
- High School Boys and High School Girls Groups: While high school practices are mostly comprised of Los Alamitos High School players, select players from other schools may participate by invitation only. If you are a high school player seeking to participate with Los Alamitos Aquatics Foundation at the Club level, please directly email the club at losalamitosaquaticsfoundation@gmail.com
- Introduction to Water Polo: This group is designed to teach the fundamentals to those who can swim but are new to water polo. Consisting mostly of younger athletes, the Intro program focuses on more individualized attention with the aim of moving the children into their respective age group teams when they are ready. It is expected that children in this age group are simultaneously taking swim lessons to improve their swim skills. NOTE: Intro to Water Polo is usually offered during session 2 and 3. For session 1 we encourage all of our new players to sign up for their respective age group program.
- Should there be insufficient interest/sign-ups to support a particular grouping, age or gender groupings may be combined.
